MultiMode 2.0.0a4 Pre-Release Software Available

March 29th, 1999 by No comments »

Black Cat Systems announces that a pre-release of MultiMode 2 is now available. The current pre-release version is 2.0.0a4. This version addresses conflicts with some printer drivers, particularly those from Epson. It also offers improvements to the Bit Rate tuning mode, which is useful for determining the transmission characteristics of unknown radio-teletype stations, and correctly decoding them.

MultiMode is a shareware application which allows your Macintosh to decode several different modes of non-voice communication often heard on shortwave radio. It is the only program of its kind for the Macintosh, and rivals commercial packages for the PC platform costing hundreds of dollars.

MultiMode allows you to decode and display morse code, RTTY, Fax, SSTV, ACARS, and many other modes on your Mac, without any extra hardware! MultiMode now also allows you to transmit in most of the modes of operation.

Birthdays and Such 1.3 released

March 29th, 1999 by No comments »

Never forget a birthday or anniversary again!

With Birthdays and Such, the delightfully simple reminder program, when you turn on your Mac a small window comes up telling you about: – the important birthdays approaching in the next few days and how old each of your friends and relatives will be; – the anniversaries coming up and how many years the couple has been married; and – the other important dates in your life, be they bills coming due, recurring doctor appointments to set up, or meetings to attend…

The new version of Birthdays and Such, the most frequently used daily reminder program on the Macintosh, lets you write longer reminders–room enough for your friend’s phone number and address, the present you gave your best friend last Christmas, or the location of that bottle of French wine you squirrelled away for your 25th anniversary. Version 1.3 also fixes an infrequent but potentially annoying memory leak when the program is left running for a month or longer without restarting.

The Price for this program is “What it’s worth”, which means you pay what you think it costs.

Vimage offers updates for Vpower G3 upgrades!

March 26th, 1999 by No comments »

Vimage today announced the availability of driver updates for two of its most popular products. The Vpower PB 1400 G3/233 CPU upgrade for the PowerBook 1400; and, the Vpower PF G3/240 CPU upgrade for the Performa and Power Macintosh 54xx/55xx/64xx/65xx.

The new software for the PB 1400–which is the same driver used for the new Vpower PB 2400 series–solves a compatibility issue that some upgraded 1400s were having with MacOS 8.5 when virtual memory was turned on. In addition, it adds a control strip module that enables the user to adjust his or her backside cache speed ratio. By reducing this ratio to its lowest setting, a user can prolong battery life by up to 15%.

The other software solves a compatibility issue that a small number of Apus 2000/160 computers were having with the PF G3/240 card. The Apus is a flavor of Umax clone whose sales have chiefly been outside the US.

March 26th, 1999 by No comments »

Western Civilisation announces the release and immediate availability of Style Master 1.2 , an important upgrade to the cascading style sheet editor that makes this new web standard accessible to all web developers.

Now web masters of all levels of expertise can create and edit cascading style sheets that will work every time in targeted browsers, and easily integrate them with their sites. But most importantly, Style Master uses innovative online help to guide users through the pitfalls of style sheets, particularly selectors, and the problem of developing for different browsers that support style sheets only partially.

Improvements to this version include

* integrated style sheet advice to smooth the learning curve for new style sheets developers, and save experienced developers trips to their reference material. * improved compatibility information for the major browsers. Style Master now covers compatibility in each version of Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer on both the Macintosh and Windows, including hints for working around known bugs. * for advanced users, style sheets can now be edited directly, as well as with our intuitive editors. * whole sites can now be linked to a style sheet with one action.

And a host of other improvements that aid usability and productivity.

In short, the best style sheet editor on any platform just got better.

Style Master comes with our acclaimed style sheets reference and guide, and a valuable hands-on tutorial that will get new developers up to speed fast with style sheets.

The cost for Style Master is $29.00. http://www.westciv.com/style_master/
